After the stunning victory of Turkey against the Czech Republic, all eyes looked at Group B where Germany played Austria to go through to the quarter finals in a more predictable match on Monday night. Croatia swept aside Poland making another serious bid for the title as well as the Netherlands, Portugal and Turkey.
In the race for the second place in Group B an unconvincing Germany sent home host Austria after a thunderbolt free kick from Ballack. Germany will now face Portugal in Basel on Thursday night. It will be broadcasted via TV and radio from 20.45 CET.
However, tonight’s spotlight falls on the next final game in Group C. The current world champion Italy plays against runner up France in a match, that is also a fight between footwear suppliers Puma and Adidas. Who do you think will make it to the quarters? It all depends on the Netherlands and their will to march through unbeaten. If they struggle, Romania takes the cake and sends Italy and France back home.
Whoever will win tonight it can be sure again, that the streets of Berne or Zurich will be flooded with people celebrating their victory with flags, beers and spirits.
